My ukulele I bought recently keeps getting out of tune quickly help?

I recently bought a ukulele on new years eve. Its my first time having one, so I dont’ know if I’m doing something wrong.

It was 180 dollars so I’m pretty sure it should be decent.
everytime I tune it, it gets out of tune after I play a couple songs. I read some forums that said you need to let the strings stretch or something. any advice? thanks
also i’ve heard that the strings a guitar comes with should be changed because they usually put the cheapest ones on. does this apply to the ukulele? what are the best types of strings for ukes? thanks

  1. your strings should be fine. some ukulele’s just do that. and new strings will not stay in tune for a while since they are adjusting. once you tune it give a slight tug on the strings at the bottom to pull out extra slack that might be stuck or not stretched and tune again, do that a few times. you can also try geting a screw driver in tightening the tension on your tuning keys. that will help them not slip if the strings are pulling too much.

  2. Let’s troubleshoot.

First thing you should check… what color are your strings? If they’re milky white, you’re in luck. Those are Nylgut strings, and they’re the best money can buy. Guitars are usually sold with the cheapest strings, but ukuleles are quite the opposite. Most ukuleles are sold with Nylgut strings, and you won’t find better strings available on the general market.

And yes, your strings will need to stretch. Play loudly and play a lot for a few days, and don’t be afraid to tune every couple of minutes. This is very good for your instrument. You should gradually need to stop tuning. If this is the problem, it’s most likely your A string going out of tune the most, correct?

If you play for a long time and you’re still out of tune, your machineheads might need to be tightened. Do this with a screwdriver but be careful, and look up further instructions how to do it just in case.

If you’re STILL out of tunes, then you can get new strings. But being out of tune will almost never be the fault of your instrument.
